Could the Talk of a repeat Spoil the Tide?

Picture
So, as all of you know, the University of Alabama won the national title last season. As you also know, they are heavy favorites to repeat this upcoming season. But is all this talk about them repeating getting to the Tide player's heads?

I believe that I do remember another team a year ago that was this heavily favored to repeat, but failed in the to get there due to a revenge minded Alabama squad who went on to win it all. I believe that if Alabama has any chance of repeating, they need to have the proper mind set needed in order to repeat.

While we are talking recent memories and Alabama's mind set, lets remember back to 2008 when Alabama went into the Sugar Bowl against a Utah team who didn't seem to be much of a problem for the Tide. As soon as the two teams hit the field, Utah seemed to be the team more ready to face their opponent. We all know which part of the hill this ended up for Alabama.

Nick Saban has seemingly done an excellent job of creating the right mind set for the Tide since then, winning all fourteen of their games. He will need to continue to do this in the 2010 season if he has any plans for reservations at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona.

While the national championship is in the back of these player's minds, they still need to realize that it is a long and brutal road. They start off the season against an under-matched San Jose State team, but that's just the beginning of the treacherous season.

The Crimson Tide will also be facing Jo-Pa's Nittany Lions the very next week. This will be a tougher match up for Alabama than most people are predicting. Penn State and Alabama both practically have an off week leading up to this game, and they also have the whole offseason and pre-season to practice and prepare for this game. Therefor both teams should show up with their A-game, and it should be a close, hard-fought gridiron showdown.

The games only get tougher from there, as they have many road games in SEC play. These games include tough match ups against Arkansas, South Carolina, Tennessee, and LSU.

Lucky for Alabama, instead of scheduling to throw down in the swamp, Alabama gets to play Florida at home in Tuscaloosa. By the way, did you guys know that Alabama and Florida are now rivals? I had no idea. Comment below if you knew, and tell me if it is because of the back-to-back SEC championship games. I would like to know.

But back to the subject.

As you can see, it will be a tough road to the BCS National Championship for Alabama in 2010, but a repeat is definitely possible and in the back of every Crimson Tide fans mind. I'm ready for some BAMA FOOTBALL! Roll Tide.
